At Season, sustainability remains our #1 priority. The smaller types of fish we offer are, by Nature, more sustainable than larger, predatory fish like tuna and salmon. Still, they’re not in limitless supply. That’s why we take every measure we can to preserve them and their surrounding ecosystems. For example, the nets our fishermen use are specially designed to eliminate bycatch (the accidental catching of other fish), and to minimize disturbances to the ocean floor. These small measures, like the small fish we catch, prove size doesn’t matter. It’s the little things that can make a big impact on sustainability.
Over the years, Season has been honored with numerous sustainability certifications. One of them is our Friend of the Sea designation. This international non-profit group certifies products that originate from sustainable fisheries. We’re proud to say that Season Brand sardines were the first to receive their prestigious certification.
The hardworking, seafaring fisherman’s job isn’t glamorous, but it is noble. For these men and women, the sea is more lifeblood than livelihood and they’re committed to preserving it.
